Jan. 11th, 2007 12:52 pmOver the holidays, my mom mail-ordered as a Christmas present this nice little scale for me which measures things like body fat percentage and bone density along with my weight.
My problem is that when I change the gender setting on it, everything but my weight in pounds changes.
When the setting is "woman" I've got about 18% body fat, which is about normal, but while it's "man" I've got 8% body fat. Which would be low even if I were an athlete (which I'm not). One of the reasons my mom got the scale for me is because she's convinced I've got an eating disorder and need to gain weight. I don't have an eating disorder (I think) but I do keep a careful eye on how much I eat most of the time. Maybe I could stand to eat a little more than I do.
I was wondering how MtF hormone replacement therapy might impact things which would be relevant to the measurement of those variables and whether I should go by what the "man" measurements say (meaning I should consume more calories per day) or the "woman" measurements say (meaning I should consume fewer calories per day, about what I consume currently). Or just go by some value in the middle of the two different measurements.
