Hi, new here. My name is Ray, and I am a transman. This query was x-posted here upon reccomendation from
ftmichael, and it's something that I've been wondering about/has been irking me.
"Lately I've been noticing that quite a few transgendered people have a very negative attitude towards men--bio-men in particular.
"To clarify: I've heard countless horror stories about transgendered people being threatened/beaten up/otherwise harrassed, by guys. No one ever talks about girls being mean, and I do know girls can be downright cruel. Besides, if the world is indeed a hostile place for transgendered people to live in, wouldn't the hostility extend to more than one half of the population?
"Many also speak of a "violent, rough, angry male culture." You know the deal--that guys are SUPPOSEDLY conditioned to be nothing but aggressive and emotionless, and they beat each other up over the smallest sign of human weakness, and they crush, dominate and destroy their way around our society like wild gorillas on crack. I know for a fact that this is an exaggeration. I have male friends, and the world they've grown up in is nothing at all like the aforementioned scenario. Hell, that world isn't even an accurate ideal--I have no clue where it came from, but it sounds like a skewed bit of fiction written by someone who's never met a man in their life. None of my friends are part of any "patriarchy" I know of, and they're honest people.
"As a transman, manhood is something I have to fight for, every day of my life for one long time. There are other transmen in the world, who are going through the same thing. I don't understand, though, why the larger "community" seems so anti-male and misinformed, if a significant percentage of it deeply wants to BE male.
"I'm not saying every transgendered person is anti-male, but there seem to be a lot."
