Confusion of Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation

There was a special on NBC about whether or not you can tell a child wil be gay when they grow up. But the focus of a show was a little boy who painted his nails pink and played with barbies. He SAID IN THE SHOW that he thought he should have been born a girl and wants to be a girl. I do not understand why NBC thinks this has anything to do with his sexual orientation. First of all, he does not say anything about attraction to anyone. Second, he is too young to be sexual ( or at least I would think so).
