Hello. My name is Anna and I'm writing from PFLAG's national office in regard to our safe schools program. As part of PFLAG's safe schools work, we are collecting stories from high school students from around the country. We are looking for stories about everyday experiences of harassment, discrimination, and exclusion at school based on sexual orientation and gender identity/statement. We are also interested in stories of GLBT students who face multiple forms of discrimination, based on race, class, disability, size, nationality, religion, etc. In addition, we would like to hear what students want in a safe and inclusive school environment. What is it that we need to be working towards? Are thereexamples of things happening in your local schools that promote GLBT awareness and acceptance? These stories will be used in PFLAG's work to encourage parents, family members, friends, and community leaders to be active for safe schools.
We want to share them at our upcoming safe schools town meeting, at our national conference, and in publications. Confidentiality will be protected as requested. Could you let us know of youth who would be willing to work with us by phone or by e-mail on this project?
