New co-mod post

Hi all! I'm a very-long-time member and very infrequent poster. nezchan has seen fit to make me a co-mod because apparently I'm more organised than she is. ;) I've created a load of tags that I hope everyone will use! Members may tag their own posts or anyone else's, including old ones. (Only mods may create new tags, so if I've forgotten something, please let me know and I'll create it!) I've tagged the last 100 posts but if anyone is bored and feels like going back further and tagging things, feel free. And please tag your own posts!

This community really seems to function fine and everyone here seems nice and supportive to each other, so I doubt you'll see me put my mod hat on very often at all. I just wanted to put out a little note in case people started to wonder why my name was appearing on the community's profile. It's good to be able to help in whatever way I can! *waves*

Article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

A few weeks ago, there was a woman named L.A. Johnson who wrote an article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about a transwoman named DannyLee who transitioned on the job and was fired for it. It was a very tasteful article on the transition of this woman and was done very well.  DannyLee took the case public and sued the company that fired her. The defendant filed a motion to dismiss, and in the end, I believe the judge actually did. This isn't the important part of the story, however.

The responses to this article from the readers in the "Chat" section are disgusting in the very least. Now, keep in mind that this is the liberal paper in Pittsburgh, and the only other alternative is the Pittsburgh Trib, a paper owned by George Bush lover, Richard Mellon-Scaife.

Yeah, because all transpeople are doing it for the attention and love that they get from their family. Also, nice touch there, putting the she in quotes. Like she's not...really a female or something. I give you a gold star.

I wish I would've noticed this chat section a little sooner, so that I could've responded with my own chat column, but I didn't, so I just have these people to read. Seriously though, read through some of those responses. They're pure comedy gold.  This sort of stuff makes me sick, and I certainly wrote to the editor about it.

In Boston for the holidays? BATS will be meeting on Wednesday the 27th!

Boston Area Trans Support (BATS) is a peer-run support group for young college-age and twentysomething transgender people in the Boston, Massachusetts area. It is inclusive of those who are questioning their gender, from MTF to FTM to genderqueer to whatever gender description you prefer. It is for those who are seeking others of similar age for support in realization of one's gender identity, help with coming-out, transition concerns, and anything else that members wish to bring up. BATS is an LGBTIQ friendly safe space, with confidentiality respected among members.
