LAKE WORTH — Susan Stanton, the former Largo city manager who drew national media attention after being fired for announcing plans for a gender change, was selected as Lake Worth's city manager today by a 4-1 vote.

So.. I live right across a bridge from Largo, so I remember it was a pretty big deal when Susan was fired. I'm pretty stoked about her new position, though. Figures it would be Lake Worth ;)

Applying for jobs

I'm currently job hunting and I'm sitting here filling in an online application. Under the stuff they want info on but won't actually go to the people making a decision about who is selected, obviously gender comes up (or it does here in the UK, since in theory they can't discriminate based on gender, certainly on your job application, further down the road [shrugs]).

How did this company word the question - "What do you consider your gender to be?"

And it made me smile. You can mark unspecified (ie I don't want to give you an answer, or I can't in good faith choose either of the two options). With all the other crap out there, and despite it not being a perfect form to the question, someone in, or for, that company made some effort. And that made me smile.

And now I have to get back to finishing that application off.

Alberta Coverage Cut

So I belong to a Facebook group dedicated to the recent announcement that Alberta plans to cut coverage for SRS from their healthcare budget, and they sent me a message stating that the official decision isn't until April 15th from 6:30 - 9:30 pm. They also included a list of the people on the committee, along with their contact information. I'm not sure how many Alberta trans folk belong to or watch the community, but for those who are there and even those who're sympathetic to the cause, can write letters or e-mails from now until decision day to get your voices heard.
