Looking for NH Trans guys:

From Gerri

Within the next few weeks New Hampshire's Trans Bill, HB415 will have a
public hearing here in the NH Senate. Based on what we saw at the House
session we had minimal participation from the FTM community.

So this time we are actively looking for a couple of FTM people that can
share their stories and their opinions on why HB415 is needed to protect our
community. Anyone that has specific discrimination situations that have
occurred here in NH are encouraged to share this information with our
Senators.

Please send me contact information if you know of someone that would be a
good resource.

Thanks,

Gerri Cannon

So I kind of have two questions for the folks out there who've gotten their passports. I've never actually gotten a passport before, so the one I'm filing for right now is my first one ever. I'm really excited, but of course mother dearest is panicking that someone's going to make my life hell (thats really the only thing she's ever concerned about with me being transgendered, is that someone out there is going to hurt her baby lol). So the first question is really so I can tell her I'd asked someone who has gone through the process and calm her for a second lol. She seems to be under the impression that, because I'm legally male, they'll probably want me to look male when I travel. Yay or nay? I didn't think that would be an issue considering you can't legally change the "M" monicker on your passport until you can prove you've had SRS and I'm sure not every pre-op transgendered MTF has had to travel as a boy lol. She's taking me to New York and she's so damn excited about it and doesn't want it to not happen lol.

And the second one is for me lol. I took my passport photos yesterday and one of the requirements is no hats/head coverings, and by head coverings I'm sure they mean scarves and things like that, but would they have a problem with wigs? I mean, I live day in and day out in them because mine is still recovering from that pesky male pattern issue so it doesn't make me look different than when I'd be travelling. And I've gotten on cross-Canada flights with my photo-ID with a wig on and my ID photo still being more masculine looking (its older and frankly I've been too lazy to get a new one), mostly because I'm open about the fact that I wear wigs and often lift it up when people question my identity haha.

Thanks!!

Although this piece does not directly mention sex or gender identity, I thought it would be interesting to members. Summary: a study has shown that children as young as 2-4 are capable of feeling complicated emotions such as pride, shame, and guilt, and higher levels of shame are correlated with depression. 2-4 years of age is the early end of when some people can remember something feeling wrong, and coincidentally a period of intense gender socialization. It is no surprise, then, that failure to properly absorb those lessons by trans children during this age range might result in feelings of shame, and possibly depression.
