Identity

I made a longer entry in my journal, but I had a lot of trouble today over the difference between GENDER identity and just plain identity. Is there such a thing as just an identity problem (no, I'm not talking about mid-life crisis!)? Or am I just over-complicating something that isn't that complicated?
