Gender Identity Project (GIP)

Winter/Spring 2006

Peer and Professional facilitated Groups

--

The Gender Identity Project is offering four groups this winter/spring cycle, beginning Wednesday, February 8. Please see below for more details:

Trans-Amorous

Post-Transition

Gender Drop-in: Masculine Spectrum

Gender Drop-in: Feminine Spectrum

Trans-Amorous

Wednesdays, beginning February 8, 7:30 - 9pm

An inclusive and supportive vision of trans-community includes individuals who are trans-amorous or who partner with transgender and gender non-conforming people. Partners and those attracted to trans-people may be affected by the stigma and oppression associated with trans-identities. In addition, they may feel isolated, face unique challenges to their identity, or may find themselves invisible within straight and queer spaces.

Trans-Amorous is a group for people of all genders to discuss and explore their attraction to and relationships with trans-identified or gender non-conforming individuals. This group is open to people currently in partnerships with trans-people, people formerly in partnerships with trans-people and people who are exploring their attraction to trans-people.

Trans-Amorous will run for 10-weeks, requires an intake interview prior to participation and will be offered on a sliding scale basis. Call Center CARE at 212.620.7310 to register.

Post-Transition

Wednesdays, beginning February 8, 7:30 - 9pm

Post-Transition is a group for trans-people of all genders who consider their gender transitions largely complete and are seeking to consolidate or re-integrate their lives. While post-transition means different things to different people, this group will seek to explore relationships, community, medical and emotional well-being, and the struggles and joys of being in the world as a men and woman with a different history.

Please note: most early transition issues such as whether to begin hormone use; coming out to family, work and friends; name and pronoun usage, restroom issues; and decisions to begin gender preferred clothing generally not be addressed in the Post-Transition group.

Post-Transition will run for 10-weeks, requires an intake interview prior to participation and will be offered on a sliding scale basis. Call Center CARE at 212.620.7310 to register.
