I'm appealing my employers lack of coverage of trans sugeries and would like a list of other compaines/organizations that cover ANY type of trans sugeries. Im will take anything world wide, but extra points go to Canadian companies, and even more for Ontario ones or high tech companies.

you dont need to work there, just if you know they have coverage

the list so far:

Soooo... Im starting a job that I'm eventually going to be recieving healthcare from through Aetna insurance. Aetna sometimes covers SRS in the states, but I'm skeptical. I've been planning all along to go to chettawut in Thailand, but recently I've started feeling like Suporn might be in my financial capabilities. As far as I know the only surgeon in the states who doesn't suck is Meltzer in Arizona.

Has anyone had srs with Meltzer, or know known anyone I could contact who has had srs with meltzer. Free would be a hell of a lot better than Suporns price but obviously I don't want to take chances with my body.

hellohello... i'm posting for two reasons:

1) i'm looking for an FTM gym buddy. i've a membership at Gold's gym in Amherst, right next to Umass. i'd like to go every Saturday and do weights and stuff. (i do early morning yoga twice a week there also.) i've never lifted before, so i've got a ways to go.

2) Transgals! apparently Gold's gym in Amherst is hosting Simply Smooth laser hair removal on October 19th, and it is FREE for gym members!! i'm not sure if they would do facial hair, but this could be a great way to get something done, like chest or back. even just joining the gym for this month is way cheaper than most hair removal appointments, from what i understand. just FYI! :)

I figured it would be a good idea to combine the collective knowledge of the LJ trans communities into one place for those challenging their employers, HMOs, insurance companies etc for trans health care coverage.

please feel free to join, even if you are not actively fighting for health coverage the knowledge you can bring to the table is always valuable.

i was just thinking of something.

why not start a trans health care co-op? all of us pay a little into the fund, or some of us pay a little more or whatever, this would help those of us who cant afford hormones, ffs, srs, electrolisis, etc.
what do you guys think?

also i started a group for ts in mississippi, both mtf, and ftm here [livejournal.com profile] mississippi_tg

So, guess what I was told today... I'll fill in the background for a moment while you try to guess.

The day after my name change, I sent out my (attempt at an) application to have the gender marker on my driver's license changed. Two weeks later -- the amount of time I was informed it usually takes by mail -- I hadn't heard anything. I emailed a couple of times. I call and at best I get a voice mail. Two weeks later someone replies to my email saying my application was incomplete and has been mailed back.  A couple of days later my documents arrive.

I add the documents they need for a complete application, and give them a call to ask who I would have to get an appointment with to get it taken care of in person. They tell me that a meeting in person isn't necessary, that I should fax it in and it will have a one-day turnaround. I fax it. A couple of weeks go by and I'm getting nothing out of them on my phone calls. They say it's in the assistant director's office and there's nothing they can do, I just need to wait until they look at it.

Today, a month after I sent in my complete application, I call again and here's what I get:

"Well I'm sorry, but the policy is under review right now. As soon as a decision is reached we will let everybody know our answer." Emphasis is mine. She tells me there's a stack of applications pending.

So, they've been telling me there's a one day turnaround, that the assistant director will look over the application soon, and now that the policy is in question and no one is getting their applications looked at.

Any other WA transpersons having a problem with this right now, or am I getting lied to for no clear reason?
